    For Your Pleasure 2024
Adore. Adore. Adore — Sprints set the year ablaze last January with their blistering, barnstorming & breathless debut Letter To Self. A record, like the cover art, full of red swirling fire — young & hungry, they know… Like I knew, when I heard the Dickies for the first time as a teenager — that if the Ramones pointed to NY & the Dickies to Los Angeles then my heart …

    2024 Review
Thoughts on 2024 The Big Stuff:Family life in full flow. School going well. House coming together. Kids settled and happy. Meanwhile, a year of wintering at work. Slow sign-offs, hard decisions, unpleasant conversations. But pockets of brilliance to be found across the agency – something to grow from. Wist moved from her London agency and started working remotely. Pottery slowed down, as busyness took hold – some Tuesday mornings and …

Design/build of some elegant, fully parametric speaker cabinets
This post documents a saga of speaker design dating back to 2019. Since then, I’ve been gradually working on a CAD model for a new set of what started as (yet another) subwoofer, but became some compact 2-way office ribbon speakers.

    Game play flow chart
This comes from the OSR subreddit (via QuestingBeast’s newsletter) and I think it’s a great idea for adventure writing. The original author was considering this for a table of contents, which I think would be a misstep. It is a really nice, evocative piece of work though. From u/Raphael_Sadowski on Reddit.

    Borges on Tolkien
So far as I know, Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986), Argentinian author of such magisterial fantasy stories as "The Aleph" and "Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius," mentioned Tolkien only twice--and not favorably. I wondered why, for it would have seemed, knowing Borges's other interests (from Anglo-Saxon to Lewis Carroll--Borges was especially well-read in British literature), that he might have been a fan.

[journal] This Is Not Your Last Job
Unless you’re retired, and maybe not even then.Assumed audience: Despite the programming languages in the opening, this applies outside tech and across industries. It is about careers, not about computers. Many years ago, when I was working at Olo, a colleague asked me, “Why are you interested in Rust? It’s not like we’re going to use that here!” Olo was and is a .NET shop, and my enthusiasm for Rust …

    I Re-Glaze My Greenhouse
I did not expect to be moved to tears by my greenhouse, but there I was, this sunny afternoon, at my allotment, phoning my Longest-Serving Friend. 'It sounds like you're crying,' she said, her voice full of concern. 'I am,' I replied. 'Please don't worry - they're tears of joy.'I explained how I had replaced the panes of glass broken by Storm Darragh. She was delighted for me and felt …
